Joanna Prażmo
Original Composition and Production for Joanna Prażmo’s ‘Panic Buying’
‘Panic Buying’ is a response to the lockdown, the phenomena of stockpiling and the idea of a human body being trapped in a home setting. It’s a visual escape for mind and a body to a dream-like liquid world created from colourful melted mediums. A transition of materials related to a period of panic buying such as: plastic grocery bags, surgical face masks and melted plastic packaging from grocery products into colourful moulds is an uplifting metaphor for positive change we dream about in difficult times of pandemic.
Exaggerated organic shapes are inspired by the idea of contradiction between physical rest and discomfort of a body trapped during a lockdown.
3D shapes where first digitally designed and then built into large sculptural forms for mould making. Process of melting plastic and moulding silicone was spontaneous and experimental based on no prototyping rule which is a response to unpredictability and uncertainty of present times, the effect of unexpected and uncontrolled. Fastenings used are related to home environment and include hardware such as hex bolts, nuts and metal carabineers commonly used as key rings.
