Bio

Born in London to Pakistani/Irish parents, Niomí moved to Mourne in Northern Ireland aged 13, where she spent her teenage years. On moving to Ireland, Niomí learnt to play piano inspired by her idols at the time, Nina Simone and Alicia Keys. She began working as a pianist in local hotels after school and on weekends. Her first radio play was on BBC Radio Ulster where she was invited to play live on air.

After moving to London aged 18, she formed the experimental RnB duo Tidelines and released 2 EPs, the first under XVI Records and the second independently. The first EP premiered on CLASH and also received attention from VICE, Crack Magazine and Pigeons and Planes, while the track How To Love Me later premiered on Dummy Magazine and was included in their top 20 tracks of the year. That year, she was also named as a runner up for the PRSF Lynsey de Paul Prize for female songwriters. Tidelines later signed with Earth Agency, supporting Telefon Tel Aviv at Camden’s Jazz Cafe.

Niomí decided to return to her solo career after taking a music production course and began to produce her own music, sampling her voice and the piano and creating textures to base her songs on from the sounds she was making. Her debut single, Sugar, premiered on DAZED and was placed on the coveted Fresh Finds Spotify playlist. She subsequently released 3 further singles (What A Man, Into The Bliss and Like Fire) whilst continuing to play live supporting artists such as Faye Webster at her first London show.

Her music was released on the label Galang, which she founded to support women and non binary artists and musicians of colour. The platform ran live music nights profiling emerging female BIPOC artists and she also ran keyboard workshops for BAME girls and vulnerable women.

Having recently gained support from the Help Musicians x Mobo Awards Fund, Niomí shared in June 2021 her debut EP Susurrus, a collection of songs reflecting on heartbreak, mental health, loss and finding a light at the end of the tunnel. Its follow up, the comforting Pain Relief EP, will be unveiled on November 18, alongside the lead single With You.
